Rodion Lab · Rodion Junior

Ansonio. Absurd adventures, games inside the story.

An illustrated series for children aged 6 and up: you read, you play, you colour. The first volume goes to the Moon, the second to the market.

A guy who never goes straight

In the first book Ansonio sets off for the Moon on the Super Turbo motorbike, and gets there by the most roundabout road there is. In the second he drives the Bolide to the market, to buy 108,000 savoy cabbages.

Along the way the story stops and turns into a game. The first one teaches astronomy: the stars, the Moon, a constellation you make up yourself. The second does numbers, weights and measures, among the market stalls. At the back there are the answers, and pages to colour.

How it's made

They are 84 page books, 8 by 10 inches, laid out in InDesign with live text: if a sentence is wrong, I fix it on the page, not inside a picture.

The work goes through the Rodion table, like everything else: every round has its log, and every choice stays written down. «The motorbike has to be sportier» is a decision made there, and it holds for the cover, the scenes and the colouring pages.

They are signed Corrado Piantagrane.
